Gaming on TripleHead2Go:
We tested a good selection of games to see how the TripleHead2Go held up and we weren't disappointed. In first person shooters like
Counter-Strike: Source,
Day of Defeat: Source,
Half-Life 2 and
F.E.A.R., the experience was simply awesome.
The peripheral vision gained by the additional screens really helps make these games much more immersive than playing on a 24" widescreen monitor, for example.
After playing an hour of
F.E.A.R., I was suitably chilled by the experience of being able to see so much more of the game. There were some fish-eye problems in
F.E.A.R. though, in that when objects moved onto the outer screens, they were quite distorted - we've included a picture of this below.
F.E.A.R. - note the distortion on the outer screens
The next game we fired up was
Oblivion. I've spent many hours playing this game on a 30" screen and I have to say I think I enjoyed playing the game more on the Matrox TripleHead2Go with three 19" screens than I ever have before and, although you don't have the same number of pixels in height, the increased FOV makes for a superb experience.
Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion looking simply phenomenal
The experience was marred slightly with a little bit of fish-eye on the outer screens but it was far less pronounced than it was in
F.E.A.R. Unless you were really looking for it, you'd be pushed to notice the slight fish-eye in the majority of the title. Indeed, the first time we spotted it was when we were walking up some stairs in an alleyway - they were slightly curved on the two outer screens.
